SEAFALCON CUTLASSFISH JIG MICRO
Though product shots for catalogues, websites, brochures etc are my stable photography, its nice to now and then to mix it up a bit. Japanese company Seafalcon recently released a new range of “micro” jigs, the Cutlassfish Jig in micro sizes. For the release in the trade magazine, Angling International, Seafalcon asked me to supply some promo images.
The target species for these jigs are small predatory fish like yellowtail, small mackerel, rock fish etc, all these fish are common throughout the world especially around piers, docks and harbors. With that in mind it was the perfect time to walk the local breakwater and piers with my young son to catch some yellowtail for the images. This image was shot on location with the addition of some “props” like old rusty chains, japanese glass float and some local seaweed/crabs. To many yellowtail or yakkas are baitfish, used as bait to catch larger fish but in Japan they are called “Aji” and are regarded as one of the best sashimi fish, and after the shots were done thats exactly what they ended up….sashimi.
