RUI JIG COLLECTION

My all time favourite and most used lens is without doubt the PC-E Micro NIKKOR 85mm f/2.8D, in fact probably 95% plus of my work is done on this lens. Its the perfect lens for product/catalog photography and other commercial applications. Its unique tilt, shift and rotation capabilities give you complete control over the lens focal plane for adjusting perspective, selectively focusing, changing depth-of-field and more. Even though I own other macros, they don’t come anywhere near the versatility and working speed that I require.

Squid jigs some of my favourite lures to shoot, fantastic colours, details and patterns, the local company Rui Jig based in Melbourne has been producing some excellent quality jigs with an enormous range of colours and sizes to suit any eging enthusiast. Though some lures my look good with shallow DOF, I think with all the details that squid jigs have its best to keep the whole jig in focus. Heres where a Perspective Control lens comes to play.

An image like this that is shot at about a 30 degree angle is impossible to produce with a standard macro lens, you could image stack it, but I don’t have the time to do this. Whereas with a PC lens, some simple calculations for DOF, adjust the lighting power to offset the loss of light from the tilt/shift and the whole product is in perfect focus.
