DAIWA 21 SALTIGA SURF SLIDEBAIT
Since their introduction at the turn of the century, I’ve shot so many Saltiga rods, from in the studio to in the field in various countries. The surf series has been one of the most advanced surf rods available, incredible strength and power yet amazingly light. While the series over the past two decades has been based on high mount spinning reel configuration, its good to see the market developing and low mount slidebait models now available.
The combination of a slim tubular items with multiple colours, metals, cork or eva etc make rods challenging. I began shooting them during film days before digital, my setup still remains the same… a fully custom-made Lightbox, that delivers images with no reflections, hot spots or shadows.
Lighting power, fstop and speed remain the same as I’m so attuned to shooting them, the only component that is checked every time is white balance. Each rod I shoot a test image with an Xrite Color Checker as each rod rod will change the white balance inside the lightbox.
